Bacopa Monniera Side Effects
Bacopa Monniera has been
used safely in Ayurvedic medicine for many centuries. In
pharmaceutical doses it has not exhibited any detrimental side
effects. A study published in Indian Journal of Pharmacology given
in single 20-30 mg and multiple 100-200 mg daily doses were tolerated
without any side effects (Singh
HK, Dhawan BN. Indian J Pharmacol 1997;29:S359-S365). In another
study, Bacopa alcohol extracts given orally to rats in 17g / kg did
result in any side effects (Martis G, Rao A. - Fitoterapia
1992;63:399-404).
One study, however, did
report cases of dry mouth, nausea and muscle fatigue in volunteers
who ingested Bacopa (Stough C, Lloyd J, Clarke J, et al. The chronic
effects of an extract of Bacopa monniera (Brahmi) on cognitive
